Supplegen Magazine : Varicodyn™ Natural Relief For Painful Legs

Aching, tender, heavy or sore legs, swelling in the ankles or feet after standing, prominent, dark blue veins in the legs and feet. The symptoms of varicose veins are common, affecting up to 10% of men and 20% of women and can be unsightly, uncomfortable and painful.

Varicose veins occur when the valves of superficial veins become damaged or weakened and fail to prevent the back flow of blood caused by gravity. Increases in pressure cause bulging and twisting of the veins – the characteristic appearance of varicose veins. Hormonal fluctuations during pregnancy and menopause, dietary deficiencies or the loss of skin elasticity due to aging, prolonged standing or sitting, constipation, constrictive clothing, lack of exercise, obesity and repeated heavy lifting can all be contributory factors in the development of varicose veins and can worsen existing symptoms.

There are many ways of preventing the development of varicose veins, perhaps the most effective being regular exercise which can help to maintain a healthy weight, keep blood flowing and leg muscles toned. Drinking plenty of water and eating a healthy diet, stopping smoking and taking regular stretch breaks during long periods of standing may also be helpful. Once varicose veins have developed, painful swelling and inflammation can be eased with support stockings, frequent rests (particularly with your legs higher than your heart) and anti-inflammatory medications. Many people also turn to traditional herbal remedies which have been used for centuries to treat poor blood flow and improve the strength and tone of the vascular system.

Supplegen's Varicodyn ™ contains a unique combination of carefully selected herbal extracts, each one chosen for its known benefits in treating circulation problems. Horse chestnut, butcher's broom and grape seed have all been used traditionally to promote blood flow and strengthen the circulation and have been shown to provide clinically proven benefits in the treatment of varicose veins.

Horse chestnut extract is very popular in Germany as a remedy for varicose veins where it has been used traditionally for many years. The active ingredient (aescin) has been shown in active and placebo controlled clinical trials to reduce leg pain and leg volume in people with circulatory problems, perhaps as a result of strengthening effects on the veins or by blocking the release of enzymes which damage capillary walls. High levels of B vitamins and flavones may also contribute to the anti-inflammatory and decongesting properties of this remedy.

Butcher's broom contains compounds called ruscogenins which are believed to strengthen collagen in blood vessel walls and improve circulation resulting in the tightening of the weak, stretched blood associated with varicose veins. The extract from grape seeds contains oligomeric proanthocyanidin complexes (OPCs). These are antioxidants which are believed to strengthen the connective tissue structure of blood vessels and reduce inflammation. Clinical studies suggest that products containing OPCs are beneficial in the treatment of varicose veins.

Varicodyn ™ contains optimal doses of each of these three carefully selected herbal extracts in one convenient capsule to be taken once per day. All Supplegen products have been developed using superior biochemical blends and formulations of carefully selected herbal extracts, each one chosen for it's known relevant health benefits
